Why people use it

One PST per File or One Merged Archive

Leave folders separate with one PST per source file, or turn on merge to combine every .mbox and .emlx into a single PST with each source in its own top-level folder.

Not the Same as Outlook for Mac

Apple Mail and Outlook for Mac are different apps with different export formats - Outlook for Mac uses OLM, not .mbox or .emlx - so check which one you actually have before converting.

FAQ

Outlook's import wizard only accepts PST or CSV files, and .mbox isn't on that list, so the export sits there unusable. This tool reads the .mbox package directly and writes a PST that Outlook opens the normal way.
It's how Apple Mail stores each message on disk: a plain RFC822 email with a byte-length number stuck on the front and an Apple plist tacked onto the end. Yes - point the converter at .emlx files directly, no need to convert them to .mbox first.
No - Outlook for Mac is a separate application that exports OLM files, not .mbox or .emlx. If your mail actually came from Apple's Mail app, this converter is the right tool; if it came from Outlook for Mac, you'd need an OLM converter instead.
